The GL team found this great article about remote working, and a company that was already remote before remote was the Thing… What I found most interesting about GitLab is the way they encourage interaction between their 1300 global employees. They have Slack chats, random coffee meet ups, family meet ups (for families of employees), and off topic conversations (inflatable kayaks, anyone?). These are not required, but are encouraged, so employees have a sense of community and engagement with each other.

The opportunity of ‘remote’
GitLab has also taken the remote process so much further. Years ago when they started moving the office process and figuring out how to make it work remotely occurred organically. Now they are taking advantage of what remote can offer. Have we taken the time, slowed down, and thought about the opportunities ‘Remote’ affords us?
Have we envisioned the cultural phenomenon we could create. And, have we realized how much more personal we can actually make every interaction?
Once we reframe our status quo to the ‘Opportunities of Remote’, the challenges present new solutions. Have you transformed your organization? Is it sustainable and meaningful?
